One of the go-to spots in Austin for pho and my personal favorite spot to get banh mis! They have all the assortments of meats you can choose from, flavorful yet light broth, and perfectly cooked noodles. The bread for the banh mis are crispy on the outside but soft as you bite through the sandwich. And the service is pretty quick considering how busy they are.
While you're here, try their Crispy Chicken Wings or Shrimp Spring Rolls! The shrimp in the spring rolls are huge, and the chicken wings are packed with garlic and perfectly crisp. For drinks, I really enjoy their Vietnamese iced coffee. It's sweet and super strong and better than some other actual coffee shops'.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 7, 20241 check-in
Nut allergy friendly - there are standard Vietnamese dishes with peanut to avoid like the spring rolls, but the pho was great.
We arrived around noon on a Sunday and were seated without a wait for two people, though they were pretty consistently packed during our entire time there. We got our Large Pho within 15 minutes, even after they noted a mistake where our ticket was dropped in the back, so service is usually very fast. They gave us water bottles on being seated (of a very recognizable brand, haha)
I had the Large Pho Tai Nam Bo Vien P08. The broth was light but still quite flavorful. The amount of noodles was definitely enough to fill me up. There were only a few meatballs and a good bundle of other meats, but they were also very tender and flavorful.
In comparison to Tan My, I'd say the value is a bit worse for portions and meat quantity but the quality is a bit higher.
We took some pho to go and the packaging was stellar, nicely layered meat and noodles and hot broth.
Would recommend if you're in the area for sure.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2024
I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. From service to food and especially their banh mi - pure perfection.
TLDR: get the banh mi, get the pho, get both. You will have no regrets
This is such a gem tucked away in a quaint neighborhood. All the times that I have gone, this place has hit that comfort spot for me.
I always have the same dilemma, do I want the pho or do I want the banh mi or do I want both? And this dilemma exists because both are so freaking good that the opportunity cost of getting one but not the other is so high that it quite literally makes me sad. And every single time, I fall victim to this dilemma because I always just end up getting both.
My usual order is this Pho Special which has all the meat options! The broth is refreshing and flavorful. Portions between the noodles and the meat are just right. I love that they give you pretty much even amounts of all the different types of proteins with the order so there is a consistent variety across the board. I do wish that they put a little bit more onions for a bit more kick. I did order onions on the side until I learned my lesson that it was $1 extra.
NOW this is what you need to come for, THEIR BANH MI!!! Whether you are vegetarian or a meat eater, the secret to their banh mi is their bread. I have never had a banh mi with bread as soft, crunchy, warm, and crisp as the one hat Pho Phung Lu offers. I personally have always gotten their Banh Mi special which has all the proteins and it has never missed. Something about the texture, something about the sauce, something about that bread that makes this such a bomb banh mi.
And if you are like me, battling your internal dilemma, I would highly recommend even ordering the banh mi to-go. They are so intentional with their packaging that if you tell them you are taking it home, they would pack the pickled veggies on the side to preserve the bread. INSANE SERVICE
Love this place - would come back bajillion times.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 13178391Apr 19, 2024
Ever since my favorite pho place closed down due to an unfortunate car crash incident, I have been craving a comforting bowl of chicken pho. I had tried Pho Phong Luu a long time ago, and the only thing I remembered about their pho is how big the portion had been, so I decided to give it another chance. I ordered their chicken pho to-go. Just as I had remembered, they provided a generous amount of noodles and chicken. They also give you a ziplock bag with bean sprouts, Thai basil leaves, two jalapeño slices, a lemon wedge, and small packets of hoisin and sriracha sauce. This pho definitely satisfied my craving, and I will be coming back again. I only wish they offered a smaller size, because their regular size is too big for me.

Best pho in Austin. Already quick service, so good on the weekends, but dare I say they are even better and taste better on the weekdays?? So delicious and flavorful. The place was full due to lunch rush but quick in and outs due to their great service. Always love this place. Tip: dip the banh mi in the pho for more flavor
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 12, 2024Previous reviewLove their pho broth (no MSG) and their banh mi, but their spring rolls lack flavor. The service is great and attentive, and the place all around is comforting to be in.

Did something a little different for lunch today, ordered the taro and mung bean wonton. Which I thought was pretty good, wouldn't be my favorite, but would eat again.
The main attraction was my usual special Vietnamese sandwich which always leads me smiling at the end of the meal. Again, the bread is always so good here, real French bread with lots of crumbs. They don't skimp on the inside of the sandwich so I'm usually happily full.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks for your great review. Really appreciate it.
Aug 8, 2023Previous reviewI had to stop by once more to make sure that it wasn't a fluke that The special Vietnamese sandwich I had on my first visit would be just as good today, as it was then. It was excellent, I'm telling you I cannot find another Vietnamese restaurant in town that makes as good of bahn mi sandwiches. The bread alone is super delicious, and the right amount of ingredients on the inside gives you a really good flavor of both the bread and the meats and veggies.
Apr 18, 2023Previous reviewI felt compelled to swing back by and try that special Vietnamese bahn mi sandwich I had last week to be sure it was as good as I thought it was then. This time before I scarfed it down I remembered to take a picture of it and it looks as good as it tastes! The bread is so good, love the crumbs when you're eating the sandwich, you know it's good French bread! Now I know for sure it wasn't a fluke, this sandwich is probably the best bahn mi sandwich in Austin as far as I'm concerned. They don't skimp on the fillings and the service is always exemplary even when they are busy.
Apr 5, 2023Previous reviewupdate: My dining partner made a compelling argument why this place needs another star. I agree, this place is really, really good, but to be fair, we will return and order other dishes for an updated review and see if the 5 star rating holds :)
This is the new discovery for us, and it is solid! We started by splitting a BM2, Special Vietnamese sandwich. After the first bite I figured out that my mistake was not ordering this just for myself because I knew at that point I was going to want to eat the other half! But I was nice and I let my dining partner have his half. The bread was true Vietnamese French style bread, some of the best I've ever tasted in Austin. Don't know if they make their own bread there, but my mission is to find out where they get that bread in case I want some for myself. The inside of the sandwich was also a taste bud party. The pork, pate, etc was spot on in taste. The jalapenos were hot but not too hot. All in all, this is probably the best bahn mi sandwich in Austin that I've had. You'll notice I don't have a picture of it's simply because it didn't last long enough to even get the camera out.
For my entree I ordered a bowl of pho. I had the p06, I round steak, flank, tendon. The broth was very tasty, almost a hint of cinnamon or kind of flowery, either way it was very delicious. While the flank and tendon were okay, the eye round steak was extremely tender and very very good. I don't think I've ever had as tender of round steak in any pho anywhere. So this place goes on a repeat list, anxious to try out some other dishes but I am going to have that sandwich to myself next time. - 86260239Feb 19, 2024
This is the best pho in Austin hands down. The broth is incredibly flavorful and comes with a heaping portion of meat + noodles.
Once you place your order, the food comes out in minutes. Order a large bowl for $2 more and you'll have leftovers.
It takes about 20 minutes to get here from downtown Austin but it's worth every minute.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

No need for a fancy review. This is a lovely simple and straight forward place to order delicious pho.
The broth is hearty and has a rich taste with generous servings of meat.
Food comes out quick as well. Just watch out if you have a late lunch because it closes at the 2:30.
Make sure you emphasize what you order when ordering any type of combination. They mixed up our order on that.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 29, 2023
The pho is amazing. Really loved the quality of the broth, not too oily and not fatty at all. Went with the 3 meat choice, steak, tripe, tendon. I'm not entirely sure you get more meat with less meat choices vs the combo so I think going with combo makes sense. Also asked for a side of the nuoc beo but I think the broth was honestly better without it. Shows you just how good that broth really is.
Wait wasn't too long on a Sunday for lunch. The service is quick and the turnover rate is high. Food comes quickly as well.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Food: 6 / 5
Service: 6 / 5 (Always attentive)
Cleanliness: 5 / 5
Parking: 4 / 5 (Can get packed on the weekends)
Price: 4.5 / 5 ($15 for pho is kind of my max)
Let's just say, this is PERFECTLY rated on Yelp
This is probably the BEST pho broth I have ever had, and this is coming from someone who is born and raised in California. Very rich in flavor with a perfect amount of noodles and meat. My gf and I drive 30 minutes almost every week just to get Pho Phong Luu
You NEED to come here and try this place ASAP.
