Where is the best place to park?

At home and take an Uber. You can of course drive around and find meter parking ($6.35 for two hours - after 7 and on Sunday's it's free). You can find neighborhood parking but it's limited to 2 hours. You can park in a parking lot which can be… more

We dined at Muriel's on March 24 during their jazz brunch. It was a mixed bag. The hostess was very unfriendly, never even greeted us. No smile, just stood waiting for me to give our name for the reservation, and then pointed to a spot and said "wait there". Our server was very friendly and helpful though. Food was fine-not spectacular nor special, but fine. One of us had shrimp and grits, the other a kind of eggs Benedict.
The jazz trio started out playing in one spot in the room we were in, which was good, could be heard by all. They then started circulating through the room to different tables. This wouldn't be a problem, but the horn player would aim his horn into the middle of the table and blow. My jaw actually dropped when I saw this. Anyone with any knowledge of trumpets knows the amount of spit that comes out of them. Right on to everyone's food and table. I was thoroughly disgusted and couldn't believe no one was asking him to move his horn. I suppose the diners didn't want to offend him, but clearly the diners had more manners than the horn player. I can't believe management allows this. Every table he played by became the spit zone. Just disgusting, and shocking this is allowed in a fine dining restaurant. We were very glad we were already done eating and quickly made our exit before we could be sprayed by the trumpet. I'm disgusted just thinking about it.
So maybe skip the jazz brunch!!!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gerald F.Downtown, Dallas, TX01Mar 18, 2024
One of the finest restaurants I've been to in New Orleans. The food, service and ambiance are superb and the history of the building makes for an unforgettable experience.

This was my second time dining at Muriel's. My first time was 10 years ago. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and only waited a couple minutes before we were escorted to our table. The host and servers were inviting and very friendly.
We opted to do the pre-fixe menu (three course meal). We had the seafood gumbo, turtle soup, shrimp and grits, pecan crusted drum, bread pudding and chocolate pecan tart. Everything was delicious! Rich and decadent in flavors. It was our favorite dinner of our whole trip. Muriel's was worth the priceHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 14, 2014Previous reviewAfter reading some great reviews, we made reservations to Muriel's. I was spectacle that it would be a tourist trap given it's location at the corner of Jackson Square... I am glad we decided to choose Muriel's. It was a fantastic choice. The decor was warm and inviting. I ordered from the pre-fixed dinner option. I had the alligator and the baby drum (fish) with bread pudding for dessert. All was delicious. Our waiter, Travis, was great. He was friendly and attentive. My only negative (which is probably the case with a lot of restaurants) is that they made me finish my monsoon drink (purchased at a different venue) prior to being seated. The result was a slightly intoxicated and very enjoyable dinner experience.

Super interesting and unique restaurant in the heart of the French Quarter. The space is massive with lots of indoor seating, yet when I called about reservations a week in advance, they only had a 5pm or 8:30pm available! Btw, this place has a full on ghost table (for the dead that haunt here) and seance room that they allow guests to explore... it's a fun little activity to do after dinner if you're up for it.
Ok.. back to the food!..
The menu gives you a prix fixe 3-course dinner option or you can order a la carte. The majority of our party opted for the 3 courses - it's actually an incredible value at less than $50! It's like getting an appetizer or dessert for free.
I started with the seafood gumbo (obsessed with New Orleans gumbo though apparently all the natives only eat their homemade versions), went with the shrimp & grits for an entree, and crème brûlée for dessert.
Everything was delicious and the portions are generous! You will not leave here hungry. My shrimp and grits were so so flavorful and I have no regrets ordering authentic southern shrimp and grits. Can't get it like that back home (Cali).Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 9115313Apr 13, 20242 check-ins
Saturday French Quarter Festival Jazz Brunch is a fantastic way to start a day in the French Quarter. Muriel's is one of my favorite restaurants and coming here is always a special treat. Started with the seafood gumbo which was rich, delicious and packed with shrimp and crab. For my entree I had the wood grilled drum and it was amazing would be an understatement. Cooked to perfection topped with blackened shrimp with broccolini.
Ended with the pain pardu white chocolate bread pudding. Yummy
Service was excellent with Joel and Kevin. Once again a fantastic experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 24, 2024
Stopped in for a lite dinner after eating way too much the entire visit. The creamy chicken soup and beet salad were peg for me. My wife really enjoyed the NOLA version of bouillabaisse and a house salad. We both devoured the Chocolate Pecan Pie. This is a hard working restaurant that feeds a lot of people and it is clear why.

This review is regarding brunch. Muriel's does not disappoint!

For brunch I had the special, Eggs Sardou, with fried oysters and a poached egg. It was delicious! My friend had the mushroom omelette and it was also very tasty.
| Drink | This was the perfect place to try New Orlean's famed Ramos Gin Fizz as I can't imagine a better one. The Sazerac here is also worthy.

It's everything you could want for the whole NOLA experience. A carefully restored 1800s French Quarter Mansion with an indoor courtyard, a Jazz band during brunch, "Seance" rooms upstairs to explore (look for the resident ghost's private dining table), plus a fabulous view of the square from the upstairs balcony!
Pro Tip! So many people were turned away that didn't have reservations. Reservations are a Must!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Feb 7, 2013Previous reviewHands down Muriel's served up the best meal during our NOLA visit, and since it was our first meal it set the standard for all other restaurants we visited. None surpassed our experience here. We ordered from the Prix Fix menu, which was a fantastic deal in my opinion: $37.50 for an appetizer, entrée and dessert. We started out with the shrimp and goat cheese crepes. The dish was simple: delicate crepes filled with goat cheese and topped with shrimp in a light, creamy sauce. I savored each precious bite, and I'm so glad we ordered two of this dish because all the romance of a French Quarter holiday night could not have swayed me to share even one forkful with my companion. For my main entrée I had the Gulf Seafood Stew: gulf shrimp, fish and crabmeat sautéed with fennel, tomato, oyster mushrooms, and leeks in a perfectly complimentary veloute sauce. This is the type of dish that earns New Orleans cuisine a name for itself. For dessert we shared the Black Bottom Butterscotch Pudding and the Pain Perdu Bread Pudding. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that my companion is not as selfish as I am and was willing to share his pick, which was the phenomenal bread pudding. That bread pudding is going on my "Top 10 best desserts" list as one of the best I've ever tasted. Was it the candied pecans? Or the perfect portion of bread and "pudding" with a gorgeous caramelized crunchy texture on top? Or maybe the superb rum sauce swirled on the plate? I know....it's the voodoo love potion sprinkled on top!
I recommend the Honey Child cocktail: honeysuckle vodka, Chambord, blackberries and basil. They had me with just two words: "honeysuckle vodka". This unique hand crafted cocktail was as lovely as it looked. My companion inquired about the ingredients in their cocktails and Rory, the Assistant Manager, arrived at our table to enthusiastically chat with us about his cocktail recipes in person! He came with the ingredients printed out for us but wanted to ensure we well informed as to how to properly execute the cocktails by describing his techniques. Now that is amazing customer service!
The location is ideal; it sits right in Jackson square. Muriels is housed in a classic 19th century French quarter mansion with a wrap around cast iron railing gracing the second floor balcony. I loved all the unique details of the interior décor: ornate chandeliers, French inspired artwork, exposed brick, eclectic collections adorning the wall space (miniature portraits, collectible plates, vintage posters, clocks) and even the somewhat macabre light sconces located in the bar area. - Mar 5, 20241 check-in
The ambiance and size of this restaurant is unmatched! There are multiple floors and rooms for an experience of your heart's desire. The service is excellent as the servers are knowledgeable, attentive, and fun! The food is really good (although not outstanding) but combined with the drinks, entertainment, and service I give this place 5 stars.
Be sure to check out the balcony and all nooks and crannys of the place. You can also rent rooms out.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 31613153947Mar 14, 2024
This was a fun restaurant we tried for the first time on this trip. We loved visiting the ghost table and seance room at the end of our meal!
We had reservations and were promptly seated in one of the dining rooms. There are several different rooms broken up into dining spaces on both the first and second floors. The ghost table can be viewed from the stairs going up to the second floor where the seance room is.
Our server was friendly and helpful with ordering gluten-free. I had their soup du jour, a crab bisque I just loved. My shrimp and grits were also amazing, but the pecan brownie I splurged for with dessert was not really worth it. One of our friends ordered and enjoyed the gumbo. My husband and our other friend and the 3 course meal and got the wedge and house salads, the roasted chicken, and the creme Brule and bread pudding for dessert. No complaints could be heard!
Overall, we loved the food, the service was good, and we enjoyed the haunted aspect. They also have gf markings on the menu, making it easy for celiacs to order. Definitely recommended.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 14, 2024
Nice setting, great service, live Jazz on Sundays, food is good but my shrimp and grits were not great. The shrimp tasted fishy. The salads and French toast were great.
The patio area is real pretty. You must check out upstairs for a really dramatic, ghostly room.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
