Was in the area for lunch, felt like Mexican food, and found Madero 1899. I'm sure everyone knows about this place if you're from Fullerton or close by...but I am not and I'd drive back to eat here again.
For lunch it was self seating and they had a huge patio area near the front, completely empty that we chose to sit in. Staff was great, and although we were the only people outside, they were always checking on us.
I ordered the breakfast burrito (yeah yeah yeah, I know), with a hazy IPA with it so made it officially a lunch. Also an appetizer of carne asada fries. Let's just say the carne asada fries were enough for a meal in itself, didn't even make a dent in them. That breakfast burrito was no joke either, absolutely stuffed.
I can't say enough good things about this place, but one last thing...the salsa is fire...so damn good. I will definitely be making the drive to come back here again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 24, 2024
I came here on a Tuesday night for the first time. My boyfriend and I wanted to try out their taco tuesday menu. We parked in the back which wasn't too hard to find parking around 7pm and the wait was about 15-20 min.
We were seated at a nice rounded booth which felt cozy and faced the bar. There's a lot of tv screens and loud music which gives off more of a club type atmosphere. The loud music makes it a bit difficult to hear one another.
Off the taco tuesday menu we ordered a few regular and speciality tacos. They were decent, but nothing super special. The birria taco was probably my favorite or the potato chorizo. Tacos and drinks were a good price.
We also ordered their carne asada fries which was a good portion and shareable for maybe 4-5 people.
Overall, the inside has a nice vibe for a weekend, game, or friend get together. Personally, the music was a little too loud for my taste and the food was just ok.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 3, 2024Seated via Yelp Reservations
Stopped by for brunch during OC Restaurant Week and ordered off that menu. We ordered the brussels sprouts, ceviche, carnitas benedicto, tres leches french toast, flan, and churros. Everything was well-seasoned and had satisfying textures. The brussels sprouts were slightly charred and crispy on the outside, and the french toast portion was generous.
Our server was really nice, energetic, and quick at accommodating any requests. We made a reservation, which we probably didn't need, but the restaurant was still quite busy on an early Sunday afternoon even if it wasn't at max capacity.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - May 6, 2024
Tried this place for the first time and it was really good! It's a nice Mexican restaurant, with a higher end vibe with the decor. I got the chicken enchiladas and it was really good! I liked all the flavors and the cute little beans crispy cup! Really good overall. The only thing was I found a wire item in my dish towards the second half of my meal, so I would give this place a 4/5. However, overall, a good place for Mexican food!

This is a Mexican spot in down town Fullerton that has good brunch and taco Tuesday deal! I went for their brunch after taking yoga down the street. We had great service and I loved the chips and salsa. My steak and eggs were ok but the steak and eggs could've used more of anything, it was not seasoned at all. The little potato mash was good and my friend enjoyed her chilaquiles. I would come back for their mimosa deal!

Stopped in with friends and was able to take advantage of their happy hr menu for our drinks and apps. The table really enjoy the tacos, dirty dog and also deep fry roll. Portions were generous and the taste was on point. The drinks were decently priced at happy hour. Even though it was house alcohol it didn't taste bad. The entrees were a bit of a disappointment after enjoying our delicious appetizers we ordered two plates of steak and they were both very chewy. The blackened mahi was not very flavorful according to my friends. Overall, I would come here for happy hour again.

What a neat vibe for a Mexican fiesta. They have plenty of seating and a cool bar to wet your whistle. They accommodated our party of 12 within minutes and our server was outstanding and attentive. Taco Tuesday brings an array of choices. We had rolled tacos, carnitas, chicken, and carne asada. Tasty and filling. Great music to dance to too.

Such a great Mexican joint in a place where I didn't expect to find food this good. Not only was my birria burrito the perfect size, but every bite was a delight--especially with that consumé. I would put that shiznit against any other offering other Mexican places brought to bear. Sometimes with consumé it's hit or miss, but this one was more not to be missed.
I think everyone else at my table enjoyed their meals too, I know they loved the chips and salsa because they all ordered multiple baskets. You'd think that Matador was strictly in the chips & salsa business and business was booming. Those crazy folks. LolHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0
