I've stayed in so many hotels of different types and categories, but I don't think any executes on their mission with more excellence and consistency than the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines.
First, I appreciate the generous availability of award bookings of different levels. I appreciated Mathew and Jessica in particular, who were very helpful in answering my questions and securing connecting rooms during the reservation process.
The schedule of activities can keep kids entertained for days and days; mine had a great time with their daily alpaca visits and pettings, various arts and crafts activities, freeze tag, the guided night hike (including the night vision goggles), stargazing with the telescopes and astronomer guides, activity room with bounce house, frequent bike rentals from the bike corral, movie nights on the lawn outside, and nightly s'mores at the fire pits. These were all included in the $40/night resort fee.
The hotel is experimenting this year with keeping the water park open off-season, which means that in addition to the heated activity pool and hot tub, the lazy river and water slide were also available (albeit very cold). The poolside bar was serving an abbreviated menu. Very nice.
The arcade is a little off the beaten path and it would be easy to miss entirely if you aren't paying attention, but it has some fun games in there like air hockey, Guitar Hero II, Pac-Man / Galaga, and some others at reasonable prices (they take credit cards in there now).
The Spa is another great thing here that many guests probably miss. Everyone has free access to the facility alongside the fitness center; it has some very cushy locker rooms with relaxation lounges, steam rooms and sauna, and hot tub, as well as a co-ed outdoor pool and hot tub. The locker room hot tubs are worth a special mention because they are actually outside, so you are fenced in for privacy and have a canopy above for shade but still get to enjoy the outside. It's great for a cold day. This whole area is immaculately maintained and gets very little use. (Pro tip: swing by there for some water or a complimentary coffee. Great place to go hang and get away from kids, even if you are just sitting in the Relax area of the locker room. It's worth a visit!)
The hotel lobby is beautiful. There are many fire pits around the property that are amazing for a late-night hang out when it's not hot outside. They have changed up some of the dining options and added a nice, new bar concept called Maude's where the old activity desk used to be. The prices on food and drinks are generally reasonable.
The breakfast in Heartwood House (formerly Firewheel Cafe) is robust and reasonably priced for what it is; lots of great options including an omelet station, fresh waffles, smoothies, smoked salmon and bagels, and a variety of pastries and cereals and other hot breakfast items. They always have non-pork meat options available: chicken sausage for the omelets one day, brisket in some scrambled eggs on another, and more brisket at the omelet station at the New Years' Day brunch. McDade's also deserves special mention; it's great to have a place to go for small essentials and simple eats. You can get a variety of coffee drinks around $5-$7, packaged salads, wraps, and sandwiches, and a nice pizza for $15. A family of 4-5 could very reasonably do dinner from there for like $30-$40 and eat in your room, one of the tables outside McDade's, or outside on the deck. (The deck is beautiful with exquisite attention to detail, e.g. lights mounted in the trees to accentuate the branches.) Maverick's has a great patio area; this one is great with kids because they can run to the playground while parents maintain line of sight from the table.
I'd be remiss not to note the incredible job on their New Years' Eve festivities. These far exceeded expectations: they handed out all sorts of props and toys for the kids, had set up free adult beverages and sodas inside for several hours, had a movie on the lawn, and ended with an incredible fireworks show right over our heads. They managed to keep up an incredible partyesque vibe for several hours and made it fun for kids and adults alike. Just very well done, and included some nice remarks from the General Manager as well. The New Years' Day brunch was also very well done; huge kudos to them for the excellent bloody mary and mimosa bars. It's been a while since I had a good, fully-loaded bloody mary. Lots of strong options there.
This hotel pays extreme attention to the guest experience and is always looking to improve. Every single staff person I interacted with was courteous and helpful and seemed aligned to the hotel's mission and delivering on that experience. I don't know how they manage to run this tight of a ship, but I'm done experimenting with new vacation destinations and will be very content just to start bringing the family here at every opportunity.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 15, 2022Previous reviewThis is a great hotel and I definitely recommend it for family getaways. That's not to say that my stay was perfect, but certainly one I felt very good about overall and look forward to repeating again.
The thing that made it amazing for us was the Family Suite, which I highly recommend. The pictures online don't do it justice. According to the website it's about 100 sq. ft. bigger than the junior suite. You wouldn't know it from the pictures, but the bed that pulls down from the wall is in its own little room between the living area and the king bedroom. That room is separated from the king bedroom by a door and has an open doorway to the living area, but it's still a doorway. If you order a rollaway bed, you can stand it up in that doorway to basically create a separate room; it's not perfect, but it's good enough to take the place of needing a 2-bedroom suite. This is a great choice if you're looking for space for the kids but don't want to get two rooms. And you still have the living area available without having to use the sleeper sofa in there (if you don't need more than 2 beds). The Family Suite also has a good eating table that can comfortably seat 4 and uncomfortably 6 (if you have 4 on the bench on one side). This is a great option if you order takeout from McDade's or the other spots and want to eat in the room. One downside: the bedroom and wall-bed room do not stay dark in the morning. The hotel did a great job with their blackout curtains and overlapping tracks, but our suite had another set of windows on the exterior side that have blinds with no curtain. Even when blinds are closed, they still let light in between and around. So in those cases it is not possible to achieve blackout conditions. It seemed silly having to hang towels over the blinds in a room where there was a multi-channel curtain track, but our family is very used to sleeping in darkness.
The TVs they use here are LG TVs with Google Chromecast built in, which you can connect to your own streaming services. That's a pretty awesome trend I've been seeing among hotels, but it's also worth noting that the TV inputs are not locked and you can therefore plug in your own devices. We actually brought our own Chromecast just to simplify since it already has all our media on it and we use a few streaming apps like Plex that aren't common on hotel TVs. There's no input button on the remote but you can access a menu by holding down the FUNCTION button and change the input from there. It automatically changes back to its default when you turn the TV off and back on, so you don't have to worry about setting it back for the next guest. (Just don't forget your device if you do this!)
I appreciate the communal microwaves and the washer dryers that are scattered around the hallways, made it very easy to do laundry before we left and keep swimsuits clean and dry between days at the water park. You can ask the front desk to send you some detergents. It was awesome not to have to do laundry when we got home because we did it the night before we left.
I got some mixed answers on the heating of pools at the waterpark. Note that on our stay, the pools were heated but the lazy river and water slide were not. I'm not sure if that varies, but those were not usable on any of the 4 days we were there.
Dining is good but the service is a little inconsistent due to the extreme staffing issues faced across most industries and especially hospitality. People were friendly and food was delicious but there were a couple very long waits. If you are on a schedule and thinking about getting lunch or dinner at a particular time, I suggest stopping by first to see if there's a wait so you can get on the list if so. We wanted to do s'mores and then dinner one night, but ended up having dinner delayed by ~80 minutes because we waited ~20 minutes for a table then opted to order takeout which took another hour; should have gotten on the Chellers list before doing the s'mores.
Speaking of s'mores, the execution is great there and that's a real novelty for the kids. Other activities were also fun; they enjoyed the ocean sand art and petting the animals in the corral. We weren't there when Camp Hyatt was open but would love to try that on our next visit so my wife and I can steal off to the spa for a bit.
Standard WiFi was fairly fast and reliable; it was enough for streaming and anything else we needed to do. The frequent re-logins are a little annoying though, wish the device would keep its authentication for the duration of the stay.
Kids 5 and under have free breakfast buffet in Firewheel, which was very legit. Definitely recommend this for the smoothies, smoked salmon, omelette bar, waffles, etc. McDade's has a nice variety of reasonably priced grab-and-go items, especially the dinner pizzas. Scribe's looks like fun for 21+ but we didn't get to enjoy due to having the kids with us. The grounds are nice overall.

Stayed here with my girls for a little spa getaway and we had the best time!
Location was serene and quiet, and the hotel was very clean with spacious rooms.
Loved that there were multiple pools, slides, and a lazy river for us to enjoy at the resort as well as poolside snacks readily available to order.
The spa is also connected to the hotel, which made it super easy for us to stay onsite and enjoy all the amenities. Recommend!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Caroline B.Manhattan, NY9743Nov 16, 2023
2/5 stars for the room. Loudest hotel I've ever stayed at -- don't expect much R&R. I was kept awake past midnight by someone stomping around in the room above me, and woken up before 6:30am by the TV blasting in a nearby room. The soundproofing is clearly lacking. The bed was comfortable but was not able to sleep well given the constant noise from other rooms.
The onsite restaurant Maverick's Roadhouse was very good (had both lunch and dinner there) so rounding up to 3 stars.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 8, 2023
From the long winding driveway to the plush lobby area, this place is beautiful! The staff were helpful & friendly. Specifically, the staff greeting visitors & helping to unload our vehicles were kind & helpful! They made a great first impression. Even at checkout, they were fast, helpful, & friendly. The room was nice; however, we spent very little time there! Our family enjoyed the activities, animals, and pool area. The s'mores making was a hit with the kids!
Our only complaint was the need for more frequent emptying & picking up of trash in the pool area. The trash cans were overflowing at times, attracting bees.
Additionally, while there we utilized the training/convention center room & catering! The food was good, but the hotel catering staff were AMAZING! They met our every need, answered all our questions, and were overall very helpful! The staff made sure we were comfortable and cared for during our entire stay!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 25, 2023
WHEN: March 2023
Is there an 8 star rating option?
I'll try to keep this brief and straight to the point: This is perhaps the best resort I've been to, and mainly because of how family friendly it is.
We flew into Austin and decided to stay at the resort because there's just so much wonderful things to do here. And with 2 toddlers it's just easier and more convenient. I'll see Austin another time.
This resort is tucked away in the middle of wonder Cedar Creek, and I must highlight all the amazing stuff staying here:
THE ROOM LAYOUT
It's such a smart usage of space. I loved that there's a booth seating for the table. Such a cozy room with a balcony, where we see the petting zoo just outside. There's both a tub and shower so bathing the kiddos was easy. The bathroom is also quite spacious.
WATER RESORT
There are so many options for you and the kids to enjoy the water activities:
+ Shallow Pools that feel like the beach
+ Water Fountains the kids can run through even at 10pm
+ Lazy River to float down in tubes
+ Water Slide to go down in
+ Cabanas to relax in
+ Heated Pools
+ Lots of towel areas and lounge chairs
RESTAURANTS
There's are lots of options for food besides room service and the little convenient shop. They make sure its family friendly too.
FOR THE KIDS (and adults)
+ PETTING ZOO - Goats, Llamas, Pigs, Ponies to pet! You can see the Longhorns from afar and depending on the time, you can get up close to one.
+ S'MORES - There are kits that include everything you need to make s'mores and 2 fire pits to do them in.
+ CRAFT KITS - Everyday you can pick up pouches of crafts and activities for the kids. So awesome.
+ PLAYGROUND - Oh yeah, there's a play area cuz what kid doesn't enjoy a playground.
+ ARCADE - Nice option but didn't go because we didn't have cash.
+ WATER RESORT - See above.
+ BIKE RENTALS - They have all sorts of bikes and helmets for all ages just laid out for us to borrow. My sis got the one with a seat for her 2-year old, and my 4 year old niece got to ride a bike with training wheels. It's such a great area by the pond to do some casual riding.
FREE LAUNDRY
This is amazing. You just pick up free detergent and fabric softener at the front desk.
GOLF
Didn't do this because we dont care for it, but nice that there's the option.
WALKING TRAILS
There are little garden areas and trails you can walk through. There's lots of options to just explore this resort.
SPA
Didn't get a chance to do this but it's nice to know its an option.
My highlight is how family friendly and focus this resort is. I can't recommend it enough.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Sep 6, 2023Updated review
My only disappointment is that the Firewheel Cafe is no longer serving lunch. That only leaves Maverick's Roadhouse in the main building. The food is good, but it would be nice to have an alternative choice.

Marketing CoordinatorDec 2, 2019Previous reviewI was going to update my review, and I couldn't believe that I have never written a HRLPR review. We have been to HRLPR many times...mostly for meetings. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. The suites are roomy with nice hill country type views. It is a dog friendly facility, and upon request, they always give us a first floor that makes dog walking easier. Thank you Marc P. Maziarz for working on our reservation and making it happen. We will defiantly continue to stay here as often as possible.

Came here for a retreat for work and the experience was ok. The resort is located a few miles off State Hwy 71 E and the drive in showcases the woodsy area, golf course, and trail. They offer multiple restaurants and large conference rooms. The lazy river and pool (adult only section as well) was nice along with the multiple fire pits. There is a bar with food at the pool but it closes fairly early. The rooms are average size with nice views depending on where you're located. From room to room and floor to floor, it's quite noisy and hard to ignore. The food from the restaurant (Maverick's) was ok but could've been better. They do serve pizza at another location that was quite good. Overall, it was an average resort experience that couldn't been better especially for the pricing.

I got a spa gift card as a birthday present and I was so excited to go. I got there and the front desk redirected me to the hotel as the spa A/C was out. Understandable- that happens. They were doing treatments in the hotel. They had put together a makeshift waiting area and had keurig cups and paper cups if you wanted coffee or tea but no hot water. Ok.
The massage itself was wonderful and really liked my massage therapist but there were essentially no spa amenities to take advantage of. The sauna? Not turned on- same with the steam room. The hot tub had green algae growing in it. I went outside to the pool and it was gross- hadn't been skimmed and there were no towels.
I gave up on my supposed "spa day" and went to get lunch at the restaurant that used to be Shellers. It was pretty empty and I waited a while for the bartender to turn around and he said "do you want a menu or something?" I said "yes, please" and asked how his day was going and he said "I'm exhausted. Had to work a double shift yesterday." Then I sat for 10 minutes as he talked to to a coworker and never came back. I finally left.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2023
Stayed here for only one night for a two day Executive Leadership Strategic Plan Meeting. This place is awesome but it does require a lot of walking. For example, going out to your vehicle in the self parking area, which is much cheaper. Walking from the lobby to the room I had was an extensive walk. My room was awesome, the beds were comfortable. The bar gets packed quickly. The restaurants are awesome as is the coffee shop. We reserved the fire pit which had a bar serving Texas beer, Texas wine, and Texas liquors only. It was awesome. The staff is extremely professional and friendly. Great place to stay for special occasions, or to hold your business meetings.

I used to come here every year growing up so this spot has a huge nostalgia factor to it for me; however, I don't remember it being very nice -
that all has changed! After taking a break for 5+ years, we made our return to a newly renovated resort - rooms, amenities, restaurants, etc. According to a bartender, they have been doing the renovations in waves/sections. Not sure if they've completed or not but I never saw/heard any construction work. It looks really nice now. I didn't make it out to the spa so this is purely based on pictures I saw as I was trying to decide, but it didn't look nice enough to pay the $$$ to go for me personally, but hopefully they are planning to renovate it as well. The property is also big enough so that when we went, it didn't feel like a ton of people. Plenty of room and seating scattered throughout. ALSO you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores by the fire pit at night :)
Foodwise - Maverick's was my favorite (although we didn't try everything - mostly convenience). Solid cocktails (LOVED their "meet me at the fire pit" - a s'more's take on the espresso martini - I was worried it would be too sweet but it was really well balanced) and good food. My sister and I split a few meals (burger for dinner one day, salad the next) - and to our pleasant surprise they brought them out for each of us in half portions!! It was such a nice touch and we really appreciated it. My mom got a sweet chili pork bun (can't remember the exact name) and that was really good as well. The crab dip was a standout, although it was really filling so highly recommend sharing with 3+ people. We went to Fire wheel café for buffet dinner one night - the selection was pretty small tho - a lot smaller than I remembered and smaller than your typical buffet... the crab bisque was AMAZING tho with surprisingly generous lumps of crab... I took advantage of the oysters.
There are also so many fun activities available! I've only done horseback riding in the past - there is also fishing, pickleball, trap shooting, tinsel for hair, yard games, ziplining.... They even offer free bikes (plenty of selection for everyone) and there is a really nice and easy trail you can ride along... super scenic and peaceful, right by a small pond and hilly greenery.
All in all, this was a wonderful staycation and definitely deserving of a 4+ star rating so don't let the current rating deter you away. We are looking forward to our next stay here!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
