    • Q:

Do they have a omakase option?

      A:

No. Not from what I've seen like other restaurants. But they do sometimes have chef special sashimi, and their sushi rolls are super unique.

      AMAZING FOOD

I've been going to harney for years now and omg I cannot recommend this place more than I already do!! Beautiful ambiance and service and topped with the most amazing rolls and food. My go to rolls are always the osider roll, rolls Royce and the BEST ceviche ever. Sometimes I go back strictly for the ceviche because it's just that good.

You walk into the place and service is just over the top and they're super fast with their food as well and you can just tell they use the best quality fish, it's always fresh and never disappoints.

My family and I were visiting SD and Harney's was recommended as a place to go for rolls. We were a 7-top and was able to be seated immediately, which was great. For being a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty dead but it was also the Saturday before Easter so we probably lucked out.

Our server was prompt with bringing out our drinks and was patient while taking our order. The table ordered a couple of ramen bowls and beef fried rice plates. For sushi rolls, we ordered the Culichi Wa Roll, Mellow Yellow, and Pirate roll. All three were amazing and fresh but the Culichi Wa was so good that we ordered another one! For dessert, we shared a few plates of mochi which they offered a handful of flavors.

If you're ever in Old Town and looking for a quick sushi spot instead of Mexican food, this is the place to go. Plus, they were playing some 2000s hip-hop / R&B so that was just an extra points with us.

1st time I ate here and wish I would've stopped by years ago it was always on my bucket list. Made reservations so had plenty of time to find good parking nearby. I was greeted with professionalism as I walked in and the waitress was very sweet and kind. The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was kept nice and clean. So many rolls to choose from but ultimately narrowed it down ti my favorite one the Bumble Bee $21.00 can't wait to go back to try more!

Been wanting to try this place coz I've heard so much about it. So my friend and I finally decided to try it for dinner tonight . Service was slow but very friendly so we didn't mind. We ordered Rolls Royce which was too sweet for our taste. Mussels for appetizer which was really salty so def not worth the price. We enjoyed the spicy scallop hand roll and spicy yellowtail hand roll though.

      YUMMY ROLLS
      (4 stars)

Not a place I'd come for sashimi or nigiri but a place I'd definitely come for rolls. I never took myself as a roll kind of gal until I moved to SD and realize there's not many quality sushi restaurants BUT there are a good handful of sushi restaurants serving quality rolls.

      - FOOD: rolls are yums
      - PRICE: decent
      - SERVICE: excellent
      - AMBIANCE: small and intimate

      :: ORDER ::
GINNOVATION ($13) - House infused-compound gin, lemon zest syrup, yuzu. I am gin cocktail love so this drink spoke to me out of all of them only for it to basically be a lemon drop Martini. The description was much fancier than I thought it would taste. Still a good drink. RECOMMEND

ROLLZ ROYCE ($24) - Shrimp tempura, asparagus, topped with torched tuna, jalapeno, money sauce, garlic ponzu, faux-nagi sauce. Very well executed roll... the roll itself was presented nicely and one thing I judge about rolls is how much rice they roll it with and the texture of the rice. It was perfect! Not too much rice and good texture (no mushy rice). This made the roll easier to eat and more enjoyable. Eating the roll in one bite gave you everything: savory from the faux unagi sauce, creamy from the round bloop of money sauce and tuna, flavor of heat without the spice from the jalapeño, crunch from the asparagus and tempura. It was so good I kept eating it after being full. This is their #1 seller and believe in the hype! Honestly, ordered this because 1) it's time consuming looking at QR-code menus to read description and compare items than it is opening a physical menu 2) #1 seller advertisement got me interested 3) it was the first roll under the Specialty Roll section and was not disappointed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

EDAMAME TRADITIONAL SALTED ($7) - a small bowl of lightly salted edamame. Small bowl was A big bowl. Basic order. Stuff your face to just stuff your face kind of order.

I've classified this as a good sushi roll place and look forward to coming back to try other rolls.

JABA APPROVED. Until the next review...

So, after staying at the Old Town Hilton Garden Inn for a few nights, I was starting to get a little tired of Mexican food and wanted to find something different. Fortunately, Harney Sushi was strategically placed and not far away - just a few blocks.

I knew they would be busy since they have nothing but great reviews, but I was hopeful that I would find an open seat at the bar. When I got there, the hostess was very nice and took me over to a place at the bar that had plenty of room, and the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful at making great recommendations.

I had decided that I wanted to order a bunch of side dishes rather than a big meal, so I ordered several different hors d'oeuvres. I was also happy to learn that Yelp had provided me with coupon for a free Grilled Shishito Pepper Dish.

Wow!! Everything was so delicious, including the House Sake. I should also mention that everything was very reasonably priced, considering the popularity and great reputation that this place has. I will definitely be coming back - next time I am in town.

Ordered takeout for pickup on a Saturday. Keep in mind sometimes there is a street market on the weekends and parking can be difficult. There was a little bit of a wait for my order when I got there but not a huge deal! There is a parking lot across from the restaurant but $12/hour so keep that in mind! Sushi was fresh and portions were big. We got 3 rolls and it was plenty for 2 people! Definitely get the rollz Royce!

Upon arriving, we didn't realize that you had to make reservations, which the website encourages it but nothing says its manditory or a must. The lady told us they were fully booked so she told us the bar was open though so we took that. While we were there, there were a few tables that were open pretty much the entire time we were there until the last 30 min of our stay. I'm confused why you say you are fully booked but 1-2 tables open for long periods of time. But hey, the bar was pretty open so i guess that's fine.

The restaurant was busy, but not crazy busy in my opinion. It took a long time for our two roles to come out. I asked about the free shishito peppers that yelp offers when you check in and I'm glad they had that because the price for the amount of peppers you get just doesn't make sense to me, but they were still really good. Most of their rolls are listed as spicy with the little pepper next to it, but what is confusing is that the other rolls with no pepper beside it still have ingredients like "spicy tuna" and "spicy Krab" which bugs me because if i don't want spicy.. then there's like maybe two rolls that i can pick from. I went ahead and got the rolls with no pepper beside them on the menu and they were literally spicy. BEWARE the sea spider roll IS SPICY. It is not listed as spicy but it absolutely is and HARNEY SUSHI should change that. There are people with sensitivities to spice so to not list that is just weird when it really is spicy. The Andy 2 Roll is safe though.. still some spice but not a lot.

The sashimi salad was super delicious EXCEPT it had these extremely salty and i guess pickled carrots? They were gross and did not belong in the salad. The salt was just over powering and unpleasant and they were use long pieces too. Overall, without the carrots the sashimi salad was delicious but not for $25 bucks.

I got the endless summer drink which was good and strong, and my husband got the paloma which was delicious. I will say though I was disappointed with some things here.. their bartenders make some good drinks.

In the end, over priced.. way too spicy .. and just not what i had hoped. But I'd return for a drink ASAP!!
