The Larry Gordon Outdoor Education Center at the Town of Wilton’s Camp Saratoga

We are creating a year-round Outdoor Education Center that will become the focal point for visitors and users of the Town of Wilton’s Historic Camp Saratoga.

In this adaptive reuse project, the existing buildings at Camp Saratoga will be renovated. The entire Education Center Campus will be named after Larry Gordon, a transformative Wilton leader and Saratoga County planner who spent most of his life protecting, enhancing, and promoting the conservation of the landscape of Camp Saratoga.

A Preserve for Nature and a Park for People Like You!

It is a place where we come together as a community through programs, our shared love of the outdoors, and our shared concerns about protecting these places for the future. It is a place you can come back to again and again, that is close enough for a rejuvenating walk at the end of a long day, but wild enough to feel like an escape.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for environmental education and outdoor recreation while supporting the conservation of ecological systems and natural settings.  Serving the community as a non-profit organization since 1996, we do not own any of the 2,400 acres that are known as the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.  We do our work in partnership with the landowners; the Town of Wilton, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Saratoga County, and The Nature Conservancy. Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park is located on the ancestral homelands of the Mohawk, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois); Abenaki; Algonkian (Mohican) people.

Located in Saratoga County, New York, Wilton Wildlife is part of the Saratoga Sandplains.  This area of ancient sand dunes, small but important wetlands and diverse ecological communities is home to the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly. This one-inch blue beauty is the catalyst behind the effort to conserve this increasingly rare landscape.

While working to ensure a future for the Karner blue butterfly and other imperiled species, we invite people of all ages to enjoy the protected lands, appreciate the area’s beauty, and to value nature’s importance.
