The Friends Welcome you! Visit the Coronado Historic Site or the Jemez Site to enjoy and learn from each area and, as a Friend, participate at no cost in hikes, trips, lectures, and have the opportunity to join us in other activities. Sunday Lecture Series: Peter Stark, adventurer and historian, will present an in-person program about the research on which his new book about Coronado is based.
When: Sunday, May 19,2024 at 2 p.m.
Where: Martha Liebert Public Library, 124 Calle Malinche, Bernalillo (Behind the Town Hall at 829 Camino del Pueblo.
Peter Stark's articles on human endurance have been published in Outside, Smithsonian, The New Yorker and The New
York Times magazines. He is the author of 8 books including At the Mercy of the River, and The Last Empty Places. His book, Astoria, was a New York Times Bestseller and Young Washington was a finalist for the 2019 George
Washington Book Prize. Now based in Montana, Stark specializes in researching and writing historical accounts of early American explorers in wilderness settings and their contact with Indigenous peoples. His talk will include a reading from his next book about Coronado.
Masks are discretionary, refreshments will be served and there is an elevator to the event meeting

Join us for a trip to Historic District plus the Fuller Lodge, Bathtub Row, Ice House Memorial, and the Hans Bethe home. We'll see the Oppenheimer home but are unable to enter because of structural problems. After lunch we will visit the Bradbury Science Museum.
Tour Fee: $35, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Group Size: 20 Current FCJHS members
Transportation: Carpooling from Bernalillo to Los Alamos via Santa Fe, 80.6 mi; 1 hr. 30 min.
Lunch: Boese Brothers (nice bistro with delicious sandwiches or restaurant of your choice.

Monthly Programs at Jemez begin with an Earth Day Hike on Saturday, April 20.
This year there are more weekend Star Parties with artisans, food, and dancing!
We feature jewelry and crafts that are made by indigenous and local artisans. We have books for all ages, toys, and gifts for special occasions. Profits from sales are used to help the historic sites with preservation and education.
