NEW LIFE

Dear Supporters,

It is with great disappointment that we share the outcome of the November 15th public meeting. Despite ourtireless efforts and the overwhelming support from our community, the Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation have chosen an alignment that necessitates the demolition of the existing I-80 Bridge.

Our mission of transforming the I-80 Bridge into a pedestrian crossing and public space has faced a significant setback. While this news is disheartening, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support throughout this journey.

To the community members, stakeholders, experts, students, elected officials, and the over 40,000 petition signees, your invaluable contributions have propelled our vision forward. We acknowledge the weight of disappointment shared by many.

While the current circumstances may be disheartening, we find solace in the collective desire for a multi-use path to be potentially incorporated into the new bridge plans—a testament to the strength of our community's voice, a rarity in federal projects.

In light of these developments, we encourage our dedicated supporters to visit i80mississippibridge.com and leave comments in the DOT's public record before November 29th. Your voices are indispensable in shaping the ongoing dialogue, advocating for a multi-use pathway on the new bridge and underlining the positive impact it would have on our community.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment. Together, let us amplify our voices and advocate for a stronger and more vibrant community.
