Maui Ocean Center | The Aquarium of Hawai'i

E KOMO MAI (WELCOME)

The Hawaiian Islands are the most remote large island chain on Earth. Isolated in the center of the Pacific Ocean, Hawai‘i’s coral reefs evolved over millions of years into a unique ecosystem populated by rare species that exist nowhere else.

Beauty extends from volcanic peaks to submarine valleys. Plunge into the Pacific and connect with astonishing marine animals in our multi-sensory aquarium, which has been inspiring ocean enthusiasts for the past 25 years.

Let our marine biologists introduce you to this undersea community—a captivating world unlike any other.

Took my wife here for the day, and loved it, lots of things to see like small fish, pufferfish, sharks and so much more. They have a cafe that serves snacks but we thought it was a bit pricey so just stuck with 2 dole whips. She got strawberry, and I got coconut. Very tasty. On top of that we also got to see their 3D Whale experience, and we loved it.

This aquarium is amazing. I underestimated how much there is to learn here. You can spend a whole day here and I'd recommend it. Their tanks are incredible, and the whale movie is really special. Their gift shop is ridiculously cool, boasting everything from books, toys, cooking items, decorations, art, and jewelry. It was so good we came back the next day just to pick up some items we really wanted. The Seascape restaurant next to it is 10/10 quality. Pricey, but you probably won't find a better meal, maybe on the island.

Mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, very cool to see all the different marine life and how it relates to Maui's nature ecosystem. The tunnel is an incredible experience and you are able to get amazing photos. We really enjoyed the Humpback 3D sphere experience -- very well produced and felt like you were right there under the water with the whales! It's pricey to go, and it was a little bit smaller than I expected. But still worth it! Staff were all very friendly and the gift shop has lots of good finds!

What a journey! First off: absolutely buy tickets in advance, just makes the general check-in experience all the quicker. Like anything else, arriving early is the key. We basically arrived for opening around 9am and easily got a parking spot (paying for parking is fun, make sure you have data access as it's online). By the time we left around noon it was definitely a full lot. All animals are clearly well cared for, while looking at one small tank I was startled by a hand coming in from above holding a toothbrush (here I thought a puffer fish would scare me, nope, turns out it was dentist PTSD). You can spend a lot of time walking through the aquarium exhibits, one unexpected surprise to me was an actual sphere theatre with a 3D showing of humpback whales! Breathtaking experience for sure that is included with your admission so definitely check it out. I like turtles.

Medium sized, clean, and vibrant aquarium. Maybe a little pricey to get in, but the fee goes towards great programs set up in the state and that the aquarium is a part of as well. Just as expected, nature conservation and historical education on Hawaiian/Polynesian culture is the main staple of this center. They do a fantastic job teaching you about sea life in simple yet educational ways with many interactive areas, also in their Hawaiian culture exhibit. Tickets in advance are cheaper than in person.
