Sobrania, Inc/Soup Opera

Who We Are

A soup kitchen located in Fairmont that was founded on February 4, 1983 by Larry & Sharon Zaccagnini.

Our mission:  "The Soup Opera daily serves a hot meal and basic necessities to enable our patrons, volunteers and benefactors to experience their human dignity."

What We Do

We serve a daily meal 7 days a week/365 days/year to those in need in Marion County and surrounding areas.  All are welcome no questions asked.  We serve a daily average of 104 people. We served approximately 39,000 meals in 2015.  In the mornings we put out pastries, fruit and coffee if we have it, in hopes of reaching those that do not have breakfast on a regular basis.  Each day volunteers report to the Soup Opera by 9:00am, prepare a meal and serve it from 11:30am - 1:00pm under the guidance of Kitchen Coordinator, Misty Tennant. The Soup Opera also fills emergency food orders on the 4th Friday of every month.   Our Clothing Room is open to those in need on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00am - 2:45pm where as folks may come in to find clothing, dishes, blankets, etc., when available.  The Soup Opera provides hygiene products, baby food, formula, diapers and wipes and offers a shower and laundry facility to our patrons. All these services are offered (Totally Free of Charge) by the Soup Opera to anyone in need, and this is only made possible through the Good Lord and folks who care enough to give to the Soup Opera.  The Soup Opera is managed by a full-time Director, a part-time Kitchen Coordinator and part-time Clothing Coordinator and many many wonderful caring volunteers.  We always have a great need for volunteers.
