Korea International School of Arts(KISA) will host world-renowned composer Joel Hoffman's Composition Academy from 28 July (Sun) to 8 August (Thu), 2024.

Program Timeline:
1.
Participants will complete a new work for the course by 15 June, 2024
and submit score and parts to Professor Hoffman at that time.
2.
Rehearsals will take place during the course where there will be a focus on
revision and improvement of the work during this time. On the last day of the course, there will be
a concert on which all of the participants’ pieces are performed. The concerts will be performed by talented
young musicians from all over the world and recorded using professional
equipment.
Instrumentation
for the new pieces are violin, cello and piano.
Participants are free to choose one, two or all three of these
instruments.
Course components:
Daily
morning group meetings with Professor Joel Hoffman with topics to include
(1) composing chamber
music
(2) improvisation
workshop
(3) participants’
presentation and discussion of their music to the group
(4) in-depth
evaluation of the participants’ works
(5) other important
topics of interest to young composers
Afternoon
hours will be devoted to rehearsals, practice and composition time. In addition, there will be cultural and
outdoor group activities in and around Seoul.
As mentioned above, the last day of the course will include a final
concert of participants’ works.

work completion: 15 June, 2024. At this time, participants will send their
scores and parts via Dropbox or Google Drive or a similiar file-sharing service
to Professor Hoffman.

English is the main language of the course, but Professor Hoffman can accommodate
Italian, French and Chinese speaking participants.
