EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Board is committed to establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, and operating guidelines that maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of all district divisions. Policy updates and revisions are presented at each monthly Board meeting in compliance with the Board’s requirement that all policies are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

This policy was first presented to the Board for review in October 2020, and it was determined that this policy needed review in the Standard Track.

The Board reviewed an initial Strawman draft at the Board retreat on February 23, 2021, and also provided continued feedback at the pre-work sessions in March, April, and May. In May at the Board Meeting, the Board approved a few changes to the policy for the 2021-2022 School Year.  Over the next few months, the Board will continue drafting the Grading and Reporting Policy with the goal to have a draft ready by November. Any changes made will not go into effect until SY 2022-2023.  At the August 12 Pre-Work session, the Board discussed the Grading Philosophy/Grading Commitment Section of the policy. During the September Pre-Work session, the board reviewed the Grading Commitments and discuss Grading Weights, Grading Scales, and Standards-Based Grading. During the October 12 Pre-Work session, the board reviewed and discussed grading weights, grading scales, and the number of assignments based on feedback received, and discuss non-academic goals, finals, recovery, and incomplete section.  At the November 9 Pre-Work session, the board viewed and discussed the entire grading policy draft with an in-depth look at the recovery and missing work section.

The following changes are included in this policy:

  • Established 14 Grading Commitments
  • Standardized Grading Categories and Weights
