EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
As a result of the district’s commitment on student-focused learning, Milton High School has proposed the addition of four year-long elective courses in Theatre: Acting and Production in Film I-IV, for the Board’s consideration.
In 2018, the Georgia Department of Education approved an additional Standards of Excellence Fine Arts Pathway in Theatre and Film that includes the Acting and Production in Film courses.
The Acting and Production in Film (52.07310, 52.07320, 52.07330, 52.07340) courses offer opportunities for student to explore diverse purposes and audiences in the creative industry fields. Individuals investigate various techniques using multiple platforms, such as the basics of acting and directing for the camera, with a focus on scene study and the differences between theatre and film. Students apply basic acting and directing techniques such as character development, audition techniques, vocal and physical techniques, and script analysis. Introduces students to on-camera performance in various genres and addresses the technical requirements of film acting such as framing, lighting, playing to the camera, shooting out of sequence, and other production considerations. Students explore the process of finding auditions for film and television and getting work on camera.
The courses are performance based and existing texts and software can be used as primary resources. This course is currently approved by the Georgia Department of Education and eligible for FTE funding. If approved all Fulton County high schools will have the option of offering more advanced fine arts course and provide more opportunities for students to prepare to enter college and career in the creative industries.
