If you suspect you may be pregnant, the first step is confirming your pregnancy with a pregnancy test. Pregnancy is confirmed by testing blood or urine.
Urine pregnancy test: The soonest urine pregnancy tests are accurate is 14 days from the time of sexual contact that could have resulted in pregnancy. Urine pregnancy testing can be done at home and produces results within minutes. Pregnancy tests are available at pharmacies, grocery stores and dollar stores. There is no need to buy an expensive test – dollar store tests are just as accurate.
Blood pregnancy test: Blood pregnancy tests can produce an accurate result as early as 7-10 days after conception (earlier than urine pregnancy tests). However, these tests require a visit to a healthcare provider, and it can take longer to receive results. Depending on your insurance coverage, the test may cost $50 or more.
If the sexual contact that may have resulted in pregnancy happened fewer than five days ago, you may be able to prevent pregnancy using emergency contraception. Plan B and its generics are available free of charge throughout Missouri while supplies last.

If you cannot get to a clinic, you may need to visit a local pharmacy or grocery store. Many pharmacies only carry brand name Plan B, which typically costs around $50. They may also keep it locked up or behind a counter, so you may need to ask for it at the store, but it should not be withheld from you.

I am under the age of 18 and I need an abortion.
In Missouri, abortion is banned regardless of age. Abortion is legal for people under 18 in some nearby states, but there may be restrictions.
In Illinois, people under 18 are not required to tell or get permission from their parents in order to have an abortion. In Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska, people under 18 must either involve their parents in their abortion decision or go through a court process called judicial bypass.

I need an abortion and I do not yet have an appointment.
What you need to know: Even though abortion is illegal in Missouri, it is still legal and available in nearby states.
- Many clinics offer both procedural and medication abortion options.
- Calculate how many weeks pregnant you are. Have this information, or your best estimate, available when searching for clinics and making your appointment.
- Search for clinics nearest to you using tools like INeedAnA.com or AbortionFinder.org.
- Abortion costs range from a few hundred dollars to thousands, becoming more expensive later in pregnancy. For more information on expenses visit “How much does an abortion cost”? Even if you know you don’t have the money to cover your care, make an appointment anyway. There is financial assistance available, but you may not be able to get it unless you have an appointment already scheduled.
- Clinics have varying wait times for appointments, so if you need an appointment urgently, you may need to call multiple clinics within the distance you can travel to determine which clinic has the shortest wait time.
- Once you have decided which clinic will work best, make an appointment right away to avoid a delay in care. Some clinics allow you to schedule online, while others will require scheduling by phone.

What you need to know: By scheduling your appointment, you have already taken the first step. Most abortion funds will only commit funding after you have your appointment. Even if your appointment is coming up and you don’t yet have the funding figured out, you are strongly encouraged to keep your appointment while you work on finding help.
Once you have your appointment, follow these steps to seek financial assistance:

I found a clinic in Missouri that looks like it offers abortion. Can I get an abortion there?
Abortion is banned in Missouri, and there are no clinics that provide abortion in the state. There are over 90 fake clinics, sometimes known as “crisis pregnancy centers” or “pregnancy resource centers” that try to make themselves look like abortion providers, but their goal is to stop people from having abortions. They may offer free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and STI testing, and often say they provide “abortion information” or “abortion counseling” but are in fact anti-abortion organizations.
Fake clinics have been known to lie about the safety of abortion and use emotional manipulation to try to talk people out of their abortion decisions. I’ve heard about ordering pills online to have my abortion at home. Is that an option for me?
People get abortion pills without going in person to a clinic in two ways:
Telemedicine abortion is available in states that allow it. Telemedicine abortion allows patients to meet with a healthcare provider virtually using an electronic device, and then have abortion medication mailed to them within the state where they had their virtual appointment.
Missouri does not allow telemedicine abortion. Missourians can travel to a state that allows telemedicine abortion, attend their appointment, and then have their medication mailed to them at an address within that state. However, this may not be the most practical option for many people, who may choose to get their care at a clinic instead of waiting for their medication to be mailed. In addition, there may be legal risks with medication abortion if any part of the abortion takes place in Missouri or another state that has banned abortion.
