The City of Brownwood held a community public open house on February 26th, 2024, at the Brownwood Lyric Theatre, to unveil the new proposed Downtown Master Plan. The event provided the first opportunity for the public to view the draft of the full Downtown Master Plan.

The public can still participate in shaping the future of downtown Brownwood by providing feedback. The draft plan and a feedback form are available online at www.brownwooddowntownplan.com. In addition to the full plan, a recording of the presentation by Freese and Nichols, the engineering and planning firm partnering with the City on this project, is also available online. The feedback window will continue to be open through March 15th, 2024.

"Continual public input is crucial to the success of this plan," said Mayor Stephen E. Haynes. "We want to provide the opportunity and additional time for feedback to help the City create a plan that reflects the needs and desires of our entire community."

The Downtown Master Plan: A Vision for the Future

The draft Downtown Master Plan outlines a comprehensive strategy for further complimenting the current revitalization efforts of Brownwood's downtown district. It encompasses elements like:

  • Development and Infrastructure: Strategies and recommendations for future development and infrastructure improvements.

  • Public Spaces: Enhancing public spaces to create a vibrant and inviting downtown experience.

  • Market Analysis: Analysis of commercial, retail, and residential markets to identify opportunities.

  • Zoning and Land Use: Recommendations for zoning and land-use regulations to support the plan's vision.

  • Catalyst Projects: Identification of key potential public sector projects to jumpstart private sector investment.

Timeline and Next Steps:

The City will review all public feedback received by March 15th before finalizing the Downtown Master Plan. The final plan will be presented to the Brownwood City Council for approval in April.
